martha-bissah-track-ghana-flagFormer Youth Olympic gold medalist Martha Bissah has finally been cleared by the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) to continue her athletic career in Norfolk State University (NSU) in Virginia, USA.

Bissah emerged as the gold medalist in the Girls’ 800metre race at the Summer Youth Olympics in 2014 in a time of 2:04:90 minutes.

On her return from the Games, she was promised a scholarship by President John Mahama in a State of the Nation address on February 26 last year.

But, she was unable to access the scholarship till she received a $32,000 per annum scholarship from NSU in August.

The young athlete left the shores of Ghana three months ago to start her athletic career. However, her desire to begin her career on the NCAA circuit was put on hold following the latter conducting an investigation in the athlete’s eligibility to partake in NCAA’s competitions.

Bissah was named in the 13-woman Cross Country Roster of the Spartans (as the NSU athletics team are called) following her approval by the NCAA.

The 800m runner is majoring in Business Management on an athletics scholarship.

The budding athlete currently on an indefinite suspension by the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) is set to put her troubled past behind and continue her athletic career. GNA
